Admission to Pre-Licensure Baccalaureate Nursing Program
The pre-nursing program (first two semesters) is open to all high school graduates who wish to pursue a major in nursing. To enter the pre-nursing program, students must be admitted to the University. The nursing major begins the fall semester of the sophomore year.

To apply to the professional program, an application must be submitted by MAY 20 to the Department of Nursing, Sudro Hall 136. Enrollment to the nursing major is limited. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in college course work is required for evaluation for admission. Actual GPA of admitted student is generally higher.

Admission is competitive and based on all of the following: 1) GPA in prerequisite courses (see sample curriculum), 2) completion of the prerequisite courses with a grade of "C" or better, 3) eligibility for sophomore standing, 4) personal references, 5) a personal interview if requested, 6) number of credits (up to 27) taken in the North Dakota University System (NDUS), and 7)evidence of: a)outstanding leadership, b)exceptional community service, c)membership in a group under represented in nursing

Students applying to the nursing major (sophomore year) must:

  • be admitted to North Dakota State University
  • be a pre-nursing major
  • complete the application to the major
  • have two written references
  • have official transcripts for all colleges attended on file

Students currently enrolled at NDSU in the pre-nursing program are encouraged to consult their nursing faculty adviser prior to the application deadline.
